After a New York City judge declared Friday that pop star Kesha could not escape her recording contract with longtime producer Dr. Luke, many artists took to Twitter to side with the singer, showing true support of women and creative freedom.

Lena Dunham wrote a pro-Kesha essay in her Lenny email newsletter Tuesday morning, writing that she “felt sick” when she heard about Friday’s ruling.

“Kesha’s case is about more than a pop star fighting for her freedom, or a $60 million investment in a shiny commercial career,” she wrote. “What’s happening to Kesha highlights the way that the American legal system continues to hurt women by failing to protect them from the men they identify as their abusers.”

We are all standing behind you Kesha, and hope you’ll be free to create!
