Beyoncé has definitely ignited some important discussions this year with “Formation” but Queen Bey has really inspired us this time. Her new merchandise campaign features a model in a wheelchair by the name of Jillian Mercado who suffers from muscular dystrophy. Mercado started modeling in 2014, with her first modeling gig with Diesel Jeans then Nordstrom. She is currently signed with IMG Models and inspiring us all. Beyoncé’s inclusion of Mercado in the campaign really highlights that this is for everyone.
We often hear about how diversity is low in the modeling industry, and those with disabilities are often forgotten. Shout out to Mercado and Beyoncé for being awesome!
