The internet is convinced that Rachel Roy is “Becky with the Good Hair.” If you haven’t seen Beyoncé’s Lemonade, “Becky with the Good Hair” is basically the mistress in the storyline. The phrase is dropped at the end of her angry, anti-fuckboy anthem “Sorry” which features dance moves by Serena Williams. She ends her song with, “He better call Becky with the good hair.”
There is no confirmation about whether the album is biographical, with some speculating it could be about her mother’s marriage, a potential Becky may have put herself out there on Instagram. Rachel Roy posted a photo on Instagram captioned, “Good hair, don’t care, but we will take good lighting, for selfies, or self truths, always.” The caption points to Beyoncé‘s song and got a lot of attention, resulting in her making her account private.
What’s even more juicy is that Rachel Roy actually has a connection to Jay-Z. She is the ex-wife of Jay-Z’s former business partner, Damon Dash. Plus there were rumors about her relationship with Jay-Z back in 2014 when the infamous elevator incident occurred. “Solange was defending Beyoncé in the elevator because Solange finds Jay’s friendship with Rachel to be WAY too close for comfort and it makes Solange very uncomfortable,” a source had told Hollywood Life at the time.
